In celebration of Eid Al Etihad, five young Emiratis raised the UAE flag at an altitude of 350 metres above sea level in Jebel Wa’ab Al Haif in Wadi Shaam in the far north of Ras Al Khaimah. The flag was raised on a 60-metre-long mast.
Mohammed Saeed Zaidoh Al Shehhi, 42, said, “We chose the top of Mount Wa’ab Al Haif, near Al Wa’ab area, where our ancestors used to grow wheat. Through this place, which overlooks the Shaam and Al Jeer areas, we can see the entire area very clearly. It took a whole week to erect the mast because we had to carry the cement and the necessary tools to that height.”
The mast was erected and the flag raised by Salem Abdullah Al Shehhi, Saeed Nouba Al Shehhi, Khalid Mohammed Al Shehhi and Zawad Al Shehhi in celebration of the 53rd Eid Al Etihad.
“Every year we raise the flag or draw it on top of mountains but this year we decided to leave a permanent mark by raising the flag on a mast in a place where everyone in the area can see it. We chose a flag measuring 10 x 4 metres so that it would keep fluttering high,” Al Shehhi said.
