Dubai Customs has announced that 90,000 individuals benefited from its volunteer efforts in the first nine months of this year.
The organisation implemented 23 diverse community-focused initiatives, with 669 employees contributing over 3,000 hours of volunteer work.
Khalil Saqr Bin Gharib, Director of Corporate Communications at Dubai Customs, said, “Volunteering is a fundamental pillar of our mission. At Dubai Customs, we have established a comprehensive framework for volunteer work inspired by global best practices to promote social solidarity and sustainable development.
He added that these initiatives support vulnerable groups and foster a sense of belonging and responsibility among the volunteers. This work is made possible through strong partnerships with strategic allies and accredited charitable organisations across the UAE.
Fouad Al Shehhi, Head of the Ghayyath Volunteer Team at Dubai Customs, stated, “Volunteering at Dubai Customs has created new opportunities for employees to engage in meaningful community work and make a tangible impact.”
Al Shehhi pointed out the variety of initiatives led by the Ghayyath team, ranging from health and awareness campaigns for employees, senior citizens, and People of Determination to community efforts such as distributing Iftar meals and Ramadan food packages. The team has also played a key role in emergency response efforts and supported official committees within the emirate.
Earlier this year, Dubai Customs took immediate action to provide assistance to families affected by heavy rain, by launching a community campaign led through the collaborative efforts of the Ghayath team and the Dubai Charity Association.
This initiative aimed to provide aid to those affected by the heavy rainfall accompanying the recent adverse weather in the UAE. Around 20 volunteers from Dubai Customs, along with volunteers from other entities, participated in the initiative.
Food supplies were distributed to 80 households, totalling 1,800 meals for lunch and dinner, covering the areas of Al Quoz and Al Barsha. The total volunteering hours amounted to 320, averaging 16 hours per volunteer.
