The United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, expressed deep concern over the recent and widespread violations of Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
In a statement issued today, Guterres voiced particular concern about the hundreds of Israeli airstrikes on various locations in Syria, emphasising the urgent need to de-escalate violence on all fronts across Syria.
The Secretary-General affirmed that the Agreement on Disengagement between Israel and Syria, signed in 1974 still remains in effect. He condemned all actions taken by Israel that contravene this agreement.
He called on the parties to the agreement to fulfill their obligations under its provisions, including ending all unauthorised presence in the buffer zone and refraining from any actions that could undermine the ceasefire and stability in the occupied Golan Heights.
