The deadline for rectifying the status of individuals in contravention of the residency law in the UAE, who are exempt from financial penalties and administrative constraints, expires on Dec.31, 2024.
This follows the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security's (ICP) decision to extend the deadline by an additional two months, from its initial commencement on Sept.1, 2024, to its revised conclusion on Oct.31, 2024.
The Authority emphasised that the extension period represents the final opportunity for those in violation to rectify their status, as subsequent registration of fines will be imposed on those who persist in violating the regulations following the expiration of the extension period.
The Authority will intensify its inspection campaigns on those who have violated the regulations in question, in collaboration with relevant government entities. In the event that the aforementioned extension period expires, the Authority will pursue legal action against any individuals who have been identified as having violated the regulations.
In light of the UAE's 53rd Union Day celebrations, the Authority has decided to extend the deadline.
This decision reflects the country's humanitarian and civilised values, as well as the appeals, desires and aspirations of those who have violated the terms of their status.
These individuals now have the opportunity to rectify their status either by leaving the country or by obtaining an employment contract.
The ICP also pointed out that the decision to extend the deadline represents the final opportunity for overstayers to rectify their status without incurring fines and without being barred from re-entering the country.
It observed that these advantages reflect the humanitarian aspect of the initiative and exemplify the Authority's commitment to providing overstayers with a greater opportunity to rectify their status, overcome the challenges they face, obtain their full rights and protect their families.
The grace period, which spanned the months of November and October, saw a considerable number of overstayers seeking to rectify their status and thereby benefit from the associated privileges.
The Authority and its strategic partners from government and private entities are committed to identifying solutions to the challenges faced by some groups, in light of the legal powers granted to it.
