His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, received a certificate from the Guinness Book of World Records on Wednesday on the occasion of the Historical Dictionary of the Arabic Language obtaining the title of the largest and most comprehensive historical linguistic project in the world with 127 volumes.
The ceremony was attended by senior figures in Sharjah including, Mohammed Hassan Khalaf, Director-General of the Sharjah Radio and Television Authority, member of the Board of Trustees of the Sharjah Arabic Language Complex, Khalid Bin Batti Al Hajri, Director-General of the University City of Sharjah, Dr Amhamed Safi Al Mostaghanmi, Secretary-General of the Sharjah Arabic Language Complex, Emma Lewis, the international judge accredited for Guinness World Records in the United Kingdom, Kamel Yasin, the regional director of Guinness World Records in the Middle East and Turkey, and a number of officials and scholars.
The Ruler of Sharjah stated that winning that title proves the importance of the great work and the unprecedented scientific value presented by the Historical Dictionary of the Arabic Language, indicating that this recognition is a thank you and appreciation to all those who worked on the dictionary, including researchers, scholars, reviewers, editors, proofreaders, the publishing house, and the Sharjah Arabic Language Complex, as well as scientists in Arabic linguistic dictionaries in all Arab countries.
Sheikh SUltan added, “Sharjah is always proud of what it offers in documented sciences, scientific, and cultural projects for the entire Arab nation and the world, especially as there is great cooperation between scientists from different countries, which increases the value of these massive works that preserve the history, sciences, and language of the Arab nation.”
Sheikh SUltan also pointed out that encyclopedic projects will continue to provide more knowledge and information in various fields.
