The UAE Media Council has monitored dissemination of a number of advertisements and content on social media that are deemed to be offensive and in contravention of the standards set out in the Media Regulation Law and its associated regulations.
These include instances of content that are deemed to be offensive to the national identity and in breach of the aforementioned standards.
The Council underscored the significance of upholding the cultural and civilisational heritage and adhering to the national identity of the country. It was stressed that all advertisements, in all their forms, must be implemented in a manner that reflects the national identity and accentuates the values of society.
It called on all advertising companies and advertising account holders, via social media, to adhere to the controls and legislation currently in force with regard to the dissemination of media content. This content is to be responsible, align with the prevailing cultural norms of the community, and preserve the values espoused by the nation.
