The Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police has issued 670 tickets for littering the roads by drivers, passengers and pedestrians who did not comply with the guidelines of the 53rd Union Day celebrations in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
The Directorate emphasised the significance of maintaining Abu Dhabi's pristine and sophisticated image by urging individuals to refrain from disposing of waste from vehicles on the roads. This infraction is governed by Article 71 of the Traffic Law, which stipulates a financial penalty of Dhs1,000 and six traffic points for drivers who transgress this provision.
In addition, it asserted the commitment to perpetuate its endeavours in the education of drivers and road users to eschew uncivilised behaviours, which some of them commit negligently and result in environmental degradation.
Drivers are also advised to comply and alert their passengers of the need to take into account environmental safety and public health, and to participate in promoting positive behaviours.
Such behaviour may cause environmental pollution, the Directorate said, stressing the importance of collaboration with the competent authorities in taking care of public health, safety and the environment.
Earlier, the Abu Dhabi Police have launched the seventh edition of ‘'Our Winter is Safe and Enjoyable’' campaign in cooperation with Abu Dhabi Civil Defence Authority and other strategic partners.
The campaign aims to heighten community security awareness and urges the public to adhere to the necessary preventive measures during the winter, for their safety and the safety of everyone.
The campaign’s media awareness channels include Abu Dhabi Police’s social media platforms and various media outlets for publishing news, television and radio interviews, distributing educational publications and brochures, in addition to holding community councils hosting experts and specialists and awareness of suffocation and fire accidents resulting from heating devices.
It calls on parents to increase their supervision of their children during the winter school break, including protecting them from electronic risks such as blackmail, bullying, and online abuse on social media.
