The Ajman Police have arrested a gang of fifteen Asians involved in fraudulent activities. The suspects had been deceiving people by requesting that they update their banking information or official documentation. They had been impersonating officials in order to create a scenario in which their victims would be deceived and would consequently hand over their money.
Colonel Ahmed Saeed Al Nuaimi, the Director of the Criminal Investigation Department at Ajman Police, stated that reports had been received regarding individuals perpetrating acts of deception by deceiving others through telephone communication. These individuals utilised phone cards registered with fraudulent data and documents, demanding that their targets update their financial information or personal documentation, such as identification cards, by masquerading as officials. This enabled the exploitation of the data to facilitate the misappropriation of funds.
Ajman Police detectives conducted a search and investigation of the gang, resulting in the arrest of 15 individuals of Asian nationality. In addition, 19 mobile phones utilised in the fraudulent activities were confiscated. Upon being questioned about the incident, the suspects admitted to perpetrating fraud against various individuals. Consequently, they were detained pending the conclusion of legal proceedings against them.
The Director of the Criminal Investigation Department at Ajman Police lauded the efficiency and experience of the department's personnel, emphasising their efforts in apprehending the accused. The Director also issued a public statement, urging individuals to disregard any such calls and to promptly report them to the authorities.
It was explained that fraudsters deceive their victims by convincing them that their accounts or bank cards have been blocked or frozen, with the aim of stealing their money. It was emphasised that banks do not request the updating of bank data over the phone. Customers were urged not to be deceived by these fake calls and messages and to go to the nearest bank branch and update the data only through customer service employees at the bank's headquarters. They further emphasised the gravity of disclosing personal data or banking information to unknown individuals, and cautioned that the Ajman Police will be vigilant in addressing any attempts to compromise the security of the homeland and the well-being of citizens and residents.
