Dubai court jails man for a month on assault charges

Dubai criminal court Dubai sentenced an Asian national to one month in jail for assaulting another person after an argument in front of an ATM machine.

The details date back to April 2024, when an Asian national filed a report stating that he was assaulted and robbed while withdrawing Dhs4,000 from an ATM machine in Al Qouz area.

He indicated that the suspect started an argument with him and tried to skip the line, distracting him and assaulting him while he was inserting his ATM card into the machine.

The victim added that another person arrived at the scene and joined the suspect in assaulting him and stealing the money from the ATM machine.

The second person reportedly immobilized him while the first fled.

The security guard was called, who detained the suspect until the police arrived.

A police officer stated during the interrogations that he collected evidence from the scene of the incident and reviewed the surveillance cameras near the location, where the footage showed the suspect assaulting the victim.

The suspect admitted during the interrogations that an argument broke out between him and the victim, and he confessed to assaulting him, but denied stealing the money.

The court stated that the complainant's statement regarding the theft came without any materialistic evidence to prove that the suspect participated in the theft. Additionally, the surveillance cameras did not show the other person involved in the theft, consequently, the court acquitted the suspect of the theft charge and convicted him only of the assault charge.
