The criminal court in Dubai sentenced a Gulf citizen to three months in jail and suspended his driving license for six months, for driving under the influence of psychotropic substances and drugs, possessing a quantity of them, and causing damage to the property of others.
The details date back to February 2024, when a report was received by the Operations Room at the Dubai Police about a serious accident on Emirates Road.
A police man stated that he went to the accident scene, where he saw a vehicle that had overturned after colliding with a concrete barrier. When he reportedly searched the vehicle, he found 10 tablets of psychotropic substances and a blood-stained syringe containing a liquid substance suspected to be a narcotic substance. The suspect was arrested, and the seized items and a sample from him were sent to the Criminal Laboratory.
The laboratory report indicated that the seized items included psychotropic tablets and the substance "methamphetamine," which is listed in the drug schedule. The report of the General Department of Forensic Evidence, which examined the suspect’s sample, also revealed there were amphetamine and methamphetamine in it, which are listed in Schedule 5 of the Federal Law on Combating Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances and its amendments.
During interrogations, the suspect admitted that he drove the vehicle under the influence of psychotropic substances and that his sudden swerve caused the collision with a concrete barrier on Emirates Road. He added that he possessed the seized items for the purpose of consumption.Apply + EnterRemove
