Dubai Criminal Court sentenced an Arab to three years in jail to be followed by deportation and fined him Dhs247,000 for locking up an African owner of a tourism company and an employee, assaulting them and stealing Dhs247,000 from the company’s safe in collaboration with others, who are still at large. The case dated back to March last year when the owner of the company based in Naif area reported to the police that he and an employee had been assaulted, threatened and robbed.
The victim stated in the interrogations that the defendant knocked the door of his office and as soon as he opened the door, the defendant and five others stormed the place and threatened him with a big knife.
The defendant asked him at knifepoint to open a safe inside his office, while the others assaulted him until one of them managed to seize the key to the safe, he said, adding that they stole Dhs247,000 from the safe and fled the scene.
A policeman indicated that an investigation team was able to identify the accused, who is of Arab nationality, and he was arrested in another emirate.
The accused confessed that he participated with others of African nationality in robbing a tourism company in the Naif area, and claimed that he did not know the fugitives.
According to a policeman, a team of detectives managed to identify the defendant and to arrest him in another emirate.
The defendant admitted that he and other Africans had robbed a tourism company in Naif area but alleged that he knew nothing about the identity of his accomplices.
The defendant explained that the other defendants had stolen his mobile phone and some documents that belonged to him one day before the robbery, adding that they told him that they would return his belongings if he helped them collect money from a company owner, who owed them money related to quantities of alcoholic beverages.
The defendant stated in the interrogations that one accomplice asked him to wear the national costume and go with them to Naif area where they, adding that when they arrived at the company headquarters, they all entered the office and stole the money from the safe before fleeing the place. He had no idea where the other defendants could be found, he said.
