Dubai Criminal Court sentenced two Arabs to six months in jail and fined them Dhs6,200, for stealing two electric bicycles from a designated parking lot in front of a shopping center in the Marina area.
The court also ordered their deportation from the country after the completion of their sentence. The details of the case date back to March 2024, when an Asian couple filed a report with the police, stating that their electric bicycles had been stolen.
The husband stated in the interrogations that he entered the shopping centre with his wife, and upon their exit, they found the locks of the bicycles broken and the bicycles stolen and also found the broken lock in the same location, so he reported the incident to the police.
According to the statement of a police man, a team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) collected the evidence and analysed the recordings of the surveillance cameras surrounding the site, where the footage showed the two suspects breaking the locks of the bicycles and fleeing with them. They were identified and one of them was arrested. On being interrogated, he denied the theft and claimed that he found the bicycles with his friend (the second suspect), and that they thought they belonged to their friends.
The second suspect, who was arrested later, confessed to the stealing the electric bicycles from the Marina area using iron scissors to break the locks with the first suspect.
