The Department of Municipalities and Transport has constructed a number of new bicycle and pedestrian pathways in various residential areas across Abu Dhabi Island.
This initiative forms part of the ongoing efforts of the department to enhance the standards of healthy quality of life and to expand health, sports and recreational facilities.
The purpose of these developments is to encourage community members to engage in a variety of sporting activities.
The implementation of the tracks is currently ongoing in the following areas: Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Street, First Sheikh Sultan Bin Zayed Street, Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Street, Saeed Bin Ahmed Al Otaiba Street, and other streets and residential areas.
The construction of additional tracks is ongoing, with the objective of extending this infrastructure to cover most areas. This initiative is designed to enable community members to engage in sporting activities on a daily basis, thereby contributing to an enhancement in their overall quality of life.
The Abu Dhabi Mobility of the Department of Municipalities and Transport has expressed a strong desire to coordinate and cooperate with various sectors, including Abu Dhabi Police, with a view to establishing these paths within the framework of commitment to the specifications of protecting drivers and road users and providing safe paths.
The augmentation of bicycle infrastructure on Abu Dhabi Island to 1,270 km has encouraged numerous members of society to utilise bicycles for transportation, thereby enhancing urban mobility and sustainability.
Furthermore, the presence of safe pathways in most areas has encouraged many families to engage in the practice of cycling with their children, fostering a positive attitude towards the hobby.
