The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced a number of Asian nationals to one month in prison to be followed by deportation for stealing batteries of trucks that were parked in the Naif area.
The case dates back to last April, when a truck driver lodged a report about the theft of the battery of his vehicle. The driver stated that he had observed the three defendants standing in proximity to his vehicle, which was parked in a sandy lot in the Naif area. This observation was made during the night.
He further stated that the suspects fled in a vehicle when he got closer to the scene, but he managed to observe the vehicle's plate number.
Subsequent inspection of his truck revealed that the battery and several batteries from other parked trucks had been wrapped in plastic bags on the ground.
It appeared that the suspects had attempted to steal them, but they fled upon his approach, prompting him to inform the police.
A police officer stated that an investigation team was able to identify and arrest the defendants, who admitted that they had connived to steal batteries from trucks parked in sandy lots in different areas in Dubai, and on the day of the incident, they proceeded to steal five batteries from trucks parked in a sandy area in Naif area. The court convicted them and issued the aforementioned judgment.
