The Abu Dhabi Police have issued a warning to drivers regarding the dangers associated with random parking on the sides of roads.
This warning follows observations by police of truck and bus drivers stopping to perform prayers on the sides of the road.
These actions, as highlighted by the police, pose a threat not only to the drivers’ safety but also that of other road users.
Furthermore, such actions result in traffic congestion and the potential for accidents, a problem that is particularly exacerbated during the evening rush hour.
The Traffic and Security Patrols Directorate is urging drivers of heavy vehicles, trucks, buses, as well as company owners and labour bus distribution officials, to advise drivers to refrain from parking on roads randomly, to eschew any uncivilised behaviour, and to proceed to nearby mosques, dedicated prayers areas, or safe areas for the performance of prayers.
The Directorate further stated that the Article 62 in the Federal Traffic Law prohibits the parking of vehicles at road junctions and turns, with a fine of Dhs500 being imposed for contravention. Similarly, Article 70 stipulates a fine of Dhs500 for any failure to comply with traffic signs and instructions.
