“Government bureaucracy is the art of turning simple things into complicated ones and creating administrative systems to combat individual creativity,” His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, tweeted via the X platform.
"In government bureaucracy, procedures are more important than results, papers are more important than service delivery, and systems and rules are put in place to limit thinking outside the box," he added.
“At the end of 2023, we made a step to eliminate and reduce bureaucracy in the departments. We launched an assessment of how the departments responded with a view to ensuring better services, higher efficiency and easier life for our people,” he said.
“The Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure excelled in their efforts to combat bureaucracy. The three worst entities in reducing bureaucracy were the Emirates Post Group, General Pensions and Social Security Authority and Ministry of Sports,” Sheikh Mohammed said, thanking the entities that excelled in reducing bureaucracy.
“We would like to tell those who do not exert sufficient efforts that the bad systems that government bureaucracy creates over the years can be changed with bold and quick decisions in a few days. The same goes for people and officials,” he said.
