An Indian-origin and Malaysian mom, Rachel Kaur, who works for AirAsia, takes a plane to go to work every day on a 40-minute flight from Penang to the capital Kuala Lumpur, as it is less expensive than travelling by car, and cheaper than renting a house in the capital.
Rachel Kaur said, "I wake up every day at 4 or 4:15 am, then leave the house at 5am to catch the flight, which takes 30 to 40 minutes, leaving at 5:55am and I reach office by 7:45am," according to the American newspaper "New York Post."
Kaur added, “In this way, I can return home every day, sit with my children, and help them with their homework. I have two children, a 12-year-old boy and an 11-year-old girl, and they need me at this age.”
Kaur claimed that despite working for an airline, she does not benefit from employee privileges and has to pay the full cost of the tickets. She added that the cost of travelling by plane is cheaper than the cost of renting an apartment in Kuala Lumpur, which costs more than $300 per month, while she can stay in her home and pay the mortgage, which costs her $223 per month.
