Residents in the town of San Pedro Cholula, west of Mexico City, were terrified and shocked when they spotted a lion roaming the streets.
A passerby captured photos and videos showing the lion walking along a road.
In a statement, the mayor's office said, "The lion was spotted on a sidewalk, which caused concern among the local residents, who instantly reported the incident to the authorities, that quickly captured the lion. Investigations are underway to find out about the source and circumstances of the incident and take the necessary measures to prevent its recurrence."
It is worth noting that Mexican law allows the possession of wild animals, provided that a permit is obtained from the Federal Attorney General's Office for Environmental Protection.
However, such incidents raise questions about the effectiveness of these laws in curbing the illegal trade of wild animals and the poor conditions of their captivity.
