Dubai Court of Misdemeanor sentenced an Asian to one month in jail after being caught red-handed in a main street driving a vehicle without a driving licence and under the influence of alcoholic beverages.
The case dated back to October last year when a police patrol stopped a vehicle that the defendant was driving on Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai after being suspected of driving recklessly.
A policeman stated that after he asked the defendant to present his driving licence, the latter told him that he was driving the vehicle without the knowledge of its owner and without holding a UAE driving licence.
The policeman added that he searched the vehicle as a precaution but did not find any prohibited substances inside it.
However, as the defendant was stammering while speaking, he was tested by an alcohol detection device and was found to be drunk, he said, adding that the defendant was arrested accordingly.
According to the official documents, the defendant confessed to having drunk alcoholic beverages before driving the vehicle of his friend without his knowledge.
"He was subsequently caught on Sheikh Zayed Road while heading for a shopping mall in Dubai Marina area," he added.
