Dubai Police reinforced the importance of regular vehicle inspections and preventive maintenance following a fatal lorry fire and collision.
Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, has urged all motorists to ensure their vehicles meet strict safety standards to prevent mechanical failures that could lead to serious accidents.
Major General Al Mazrouei stressed the need for strict compliance with traffic regulations and warned against unauthorised vehicle modifications, noting that unapproved alterations often contribute to breakdowns and fires. He reaffirmed Dubai Police’s commitment to road safety, highlighting ongoing awareness campaigns and intensified inspections to enforce compliance with traffic laws and protect road users.
Lorry Fire and Fatal Collision in Jebel Ali
Providing details on the recent incident, Major General Al Mazrouei revealed that the accident occurred when a lorry caught fire while in motion along a two-lane road. The fire caused the driver to lose control, veering into the opposite lane, where the lorry collided head-on with another oncoming lorry.
The crash resulted in the death of the driver whose lorry caught fire, while the other driver sustained serious injuries and was rushed to hospital for treatment.
Traffic accident investigators were immediately dispatched to the scene to examine the wreckage, collect evidence, and determine the precise cause of the incident. Dubai Police patrols secured the area, managed traffic flow to prevent further congestion, and ensured rapid emergency response.
Major General Al Mazrouei stressed that such incidents highlight the critical need for regular vehicle inspections. He urged all drivers to conduct routine safety checks to prevent mechanical failures that could result in devastating accidents.
He also reaffirmed Dubai Police’s ongoing efforts to enhance road safety awareness through educational campaigns and intensive on-road monitoring programmes, which aim to reduce traffic risks and hazardous driving behaviours.
