The Dubai Police's General Directorate of Traffic explained the types of violations that the artificial intelligence-based radars can monitor, the value of the fines, the duration of vehicle impoundment and the black points, which aim to control the traffic, prevent accidents and improve road safety.
This came during a press conference held by the General Directorate of Traffic at the Research and Development Centre, located at the Dubai Police Headquarters.
The conference was attended by Brigadier Esam Ibrahim Al Awar, Acting Deputy Director of the General Directorate of Traffic, Brigadier Mohammed Ali Karam, Director of the Traffic Technologies Department at the General Directorate of Traffic, and Colonel Mohammed Abdullah Al Qaidi, Director of the Dubai Land Patrols Department.
The General Traffic Department provided an explanation of the traffic violations that are controlled by technical traffic control systems.
These violations include the infringement of exceeding the maximum speed limit by more than 80, the financial penalty is Dhs3,000, the vehicle is impounded for a period of 60 days, and 23 black points are recorded for the driver.
While in the case of exceeding the speed limit by more than 60 km/h, the financial penalty is Dhs2,000, with impounding the vehicle for 20 days and imposing 12 black points.
For speeds exceeding the limit by 50 km/h, the financial penalty is Dhs1,000. Exceeding the speed by more than 40 km/h results in a financial penalty of Dhs700, while speeds over 30 km/h incur a penalty of Dhs600. Exceeding the speed by more than 20 km/h results in a financial penalty of Dhs300.
Jumping red light
In the event of a red traffic signal being disregarded, a financial penalty of Dhs1,000 will be recorded on the vehicle with impounding it for 30 days and imposing 12 black points against the driver's licence.
The financial penalty for failing to adhere to the mandatory lane is Dhs400, while for a heavy vehicle, the penalty is increased to Dhs1,500 and the same number of black points is recorded.
Driving against traffic and on the hard shoulder
The financial penalty for driving in the wrong direction is Dhs600, and the vehicle will be impounded for a period of seven days. Furthermore, four black points will be recorded against the driver's licence.
Conversely, driving on the hard shoulder is subject to a more substantial fine of Dhs1,000, resulting in the vehicle being impounded for a duration of 30 days and recording of 6 black points to the driver's record.
The consequences of failure to fasten seat belts and distraction from driving
The financial penalty for failure to fasten seat belts while driving is Dhs400 and 4 black points. Similarly, the penalty for driving while distracted by using a mobile phone is Dhs800 and 4 black points. Furthermore, the financial penalty for excess tinting of vehicle windows beyond the permitted limit is Dhs1,500.
Tailgating, noise and pedestrians
In the event of failing to keep sufficient spatial between vehicles, a financial penalty of Dhs400 will be recoded against the monitored vehicle with the registration of four black points against the driver's licence.
Similarly, operating a vehicle that generates noise results in a financial penalty of Dhs2,000 and 12 black points.
Finally, failure to grant precedence to pedestrians in designated crossing zones leads to a financial penalty of Dhs500 and the registration of six black points.
U-Turn and Expiration of Registration
Vehicles that are observed making an illegal U-turn, or that are observed driving from a location other than the designated area, will incur a financial penalty of Dhs500, in addition to imposing four black points on the offender's licence.
Similarly, drivers who operate a vehicle with an expired registration face a financial penalty of Dhs500 with four black points.
Finally, drivers who stop in the middle of the road without justification will incur a financial penalty of Dhs1,000 with six black points on their licence.
The fine for passing or entering a heavy vehicle on the road and in prohibited places is Dhs1,000 and 4 black points, and parking in a way that obstructs movement of other vehicles incurs a fine of Dhs500.
