The Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) revealed the Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellite, Etihad-SAT, developed in partnership with the Republic of Korea's Satrec Initiative, will provide data for the management of crises and disasters, the surveying of agricultural land, the monitoring of oil spills and maritime navigation.
This was explained in a one minute and 11 second video clip posted on the X platform.
Etihad-SAT represents a significant milestone in MBRSC's Satellite Development Programme, as it is the first satellite equipped with SAR imaging technology.
The advanced capability will enhance the centre's Earth observation capabilities by providing high-resolution images in all weather conditions, while further advancing the UAE's expertise in satellite technology, Eng. Amer Al Sayegh Al Ghafri, Assistant Director General for Space Engineering said.
He added that this data would contribute to a better understanding and provide data for crisis and disaster management, the study of agricultural areas, the monitoring of oil spills and maritime navigation, in cooperation with all partners in the public and private sectors.
The Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre's first Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellite, Etihad-SAT, is scheduled for launch aboard SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket from the Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, USA soon.
