As many as 271 accidents across the country took place due to jumping a red light, according to statistics issued by the Ministry of Interior. Of these accidents, 153 took place in the capital Abu Dhabi, 111 in Dubai, 3 in Ras Al Khaimah, 3 in Umm Al Quwain, and one accident in Sharjah.
The statistics also showed that 67 accidents occurred last year, involving people who did not hold a driving licence. These included 55 in the capital Abu Dhabi, 7 in Sharjah, 3 in Umm Al Quwain and 2 in Fujairah, while no accident of this type took place in the other emirates.
Entering a main road without ensuring that it was clear caused multiple accidents across the country in 2024. These included 129 in Abu Dhabi, 19 in Sharjah, 26 in Ras Al Khaimah, 33 in Fujairah, 12 in Umm Al Quwain and 4 in Ajman, while 37 tyre burst accidents took place last year including 26 in Abu Dhabi, 8 in Dubai and 3 in Ras Al Khaimah, the statistics revealed.
The statistics indicated that Abu Dhabi recorded 16 accidents due to driving in the opposite direction in 2024, while Fujairah recorded only two accidents during the same period for the same reason, and no accidents of this type were recorded in the other emirates.
They showed that Abu Dhabi recorded 37 traffic accidents last year due to not giving priority to pedestrians, while Dubai recorded 34 accidents, Sharjah only two accidents, Ras Al Khaimah 8 accidents and Fujairah 15 accidents.
The statistics identified about 66 causes that led to accidents, including negligence and inattention, sudden deviation, jumping a red light, distraction, failure to give priority to pedestrians, speeding without taking into account road conditions, driving in the opposite direction, reversing without making sure the road was clear and failure to adhere to traffic signs.
