Lebanese media personality fined Dhs10,000 for insulting Egypt's Yasmine Ezz in Dubai

In September 2023, the Egyptian media personality Yasmine Ezz was scheduled to participate in a panel discussion with the Lebanese media personality Nischan, but she did not attend.

Nischan commented on her absence with a hint of sarcasm, saying, "It seems the media personality is busy preparing her winter voice."

Yasmine considered the comment an insult and defamation of her character in front of the public, and she began taking legal action against Nischan in Dubai, accusing him of slander and libel through social media platforms.

In Dubai, the Misdemeanour Court fined Nischan Dhs10,000, confirming that his comment was indeed offensive, and ordered the civil lawsuit to be referred to the competent court to consider the compensatory aspect of the case. The verdict was final and cannot be appealed.

Nischan appealed the ruling but the Court of Appeal referred the case to the Court of Cassation, where the ruling was uphold and any further appeals in the case was rejected.
