As many as 801,857 vehicles were registered nationwide last year, with Dubai leading the way with 484,223 vehicles compared to 213,284 in Abu Dhabi, 56,657 in Sharjah, 20,081 in Ajman, 5,195 in Umm Al Quwain, 14,992, in Ras Al Khaimah and 7,779 in Fujairah, according to statistics revealed by the Ministry of Interior.
The registered vehicles included seven types: heavy buses, light buses, heavy mechanical equipment and machinery, light mechanical equipment and machinery, motorcycles, heavy trucks, and light vehicles, which topped the list with some 698,699 vehicles registered nationwide.
Vehicles are registered with the traffic department in each emirate and registration services are provided through authorized service centres, websites or smart apps of traffic departments or the Ministry of Interior.
New vehicles purchased from authorized agencies nationwide are registered through the agency, which takes all the required procedures.
To be registered, a vehicle must be inspected at an authorized inspection centre excluding vehicles less than three years old from the date of manufacture and the inspection result must prove that the vehicle is eligible for registration.
A vehicle must also be insured by an authorized insurance company and all fines must be settled before it is registered through approved registration channels.
