Three Emirati children from Al Kaabi family, aged between 6 and 13, died in Al Ain on Friday morning after inhaling smoke from a fire which broke out in an annex where they were sleeping at their grandfather’s home in Nahil. The children were identified as Dhiab Saeed Mohammed Al Kaabi, 13, Salem Ghareeb Mohammed Al Kaabi 10, and Hareb, 6.
The children’s uncle stated that the incident occurred around 9:30am on Friday when they were asleep in the annex, which consisted of multiple rooms.
During their sleep, he added, an electrical short circuit caused a fire to break out in one of the annex rooms, leading to heavy smoke which reached the room where they were sleeping, causing them to suffocate.
Their grandfather attempted to rescue them, sustaining minor burns in the process. He reportedly received treatment and is currently in good health.
The relevant authorities were immediately notified.
