A truck loaded with ethanol flipped and exploded on BR-101 in Palhoça, Santa Catarina, Brazil, sparking a massive fire.
At least 22 cars and 3 trucks were caught in the blaze, leaving five people injured — two with severe burns. Both directions of the highway were completely shut down.
Authorities said, “The overturning of a truck loaded with ethyl alcohol (ethanol) followed by an explosion blocked BR-101, at km 233, in Palhoça, in Greater Florianópolis, in Santa Catarina.”
According to information from the Federal Highway Police (PRF), the incident occurred around 1:30 pm, this Sunday.
"Accident involving a truck with flammable products leaves several cars on fire on Morro dos Cavalos. Several teams of firefighters, SAMU, PM, and 2 aircraft were on site, but so far there are no reports of fatalities," the local media reported.
