The General Department of Airport Security at Dubai Police returned a bag belonging to two brothers travelling via Dubai International Airport to their sister within 30 minutes after the loss was reported.
The bag contained Dhs102,000 as well as the two brothers’ passports and personal belongings.
Brigadier Hamouda Balsuwaida Al Ameri, director of the department, said that two Kuwaiti brothers received news of the death of a family member, so they rushed to book a return ticket to their homeland.
"After boarding the plane, however, they realised that they had lost their bag at terminal 1 of Dubai International Airport," he added.
Since they could not leave the plane, they contacted their sister, who was seeing them off at the airport, and she filed a report on a missing item with the police.
"The specialised teams rushed to search for the bag and handed it over to the sister of the two passengers within 30 minutes in accordance with the approved legal delivery procedures," Al Ameri said.
He pointed out that cases of loss are normally recurring at Dubai International Airport and that the lost items vary between sums of money, valuables and different documents, including travel documents.
The Lost and Found Department personnel are experienced enough to deal with reports accurately and swiftly, he said, adding that in a previous incident, Dubai Police returned the belongings to their respective owners even before they knew they were lost.
