Abu Dhabi Family, Civil, and Administrative Cases Court ordered a maid to pay Dhs10,000 in compensation to her employer, whose infant child she was responsible for caring for.
Surveillance footage revealed that the maid had treated the child harshly, causing him physical and psychological harm.
In the case details, the employer filed a lawsuit against the maid, demanding she pay Dhs51,000 in compensation for the material and psychological damages caused to his infant child, along with a 12% delay interest from the date of the lawsuit until full payment.
He also requested she cover the court fees and expenses. The plaintiff stated that the appellee worked for him as a maid to care for his infant child.
Surveillance footage revealed that she treated the child harshly, resulting in physical and psychological harm and she was previously fined Dhs3,000 under a criminal judgment and ordered to pay court fees.
The court clarified that the appellee had harmed the child’s body, as evidenced by damage to his leg observed in surveillance footage, which showed the maid’s harsh treatment.
When questioned, the maid denied the allegations, claiming that when her employer asked about the injuries to the child’s leg, she told him she had held the child by his leg while playing with him, adding that she cared for the child daily until his mother returned from university.
The court stated that, according to the criminal court’s ruling, the plaintiff’s claims were valid and based on the final criminal judgment, the appellee’s actions caused psychological and physical harm to the child, so the court assessed the compensation due at Dhs10,000 for all damages incurred by the child.
