Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, stressed that efforts to achieve strategic traffic safety indicators have led to a reduction in fatalities and accidents by over 90% between 2007 and 2024.
Al Marri highlighted the pivotal role of awareness campaigns in achieving these goals, as various segments of society were targeted with educational initiatives on traffic safety procedures and laws.
He added that the police command conducted 8 awareness campaigns, benefiting more than 255,000 individuals, and produced over 24 educational videos illustrating the severe consequences of violating traffic laws, including injuries and fatalities. These videos allegedly garnered over 117 million views. According to Al Marri, motorcycle delivery services recorded over 145,000 violations, while bicycles and electric bikes accounted for nearly 40,000 violations and pedestrian violations amounted to 60,000.
Approximately 24,000 vehicles, 4,000 delivery motorcycles, and over 54,000 personal mobility devices were impounded.
Al Marri noted that road traffic fatalities over the past 18 years from 2007 to 2024 decreased by more than 90%, and the fatality rate per 100,000 population dropped from 21.7 in 2007 to 1.8 in 2024.
Pedestrian fatalities decreased from 9.5 to 0.3, while the rate of fatalities and severe injuries decreased from 36.2 to 4, Al Marri indicated, adding that road traffic fatalities per 10,000 vehicles declined from 4.2 to 0.45.
