Dubai Police rescued 54 children who were trapped in vehicles, homes, or elevators from the beginning of 2025 until the end of February, according to Colonel Abdullah Ali Bishoh, Head of the Land Rescue Section at the General Department of Transportation and Rescue.
Bishoh explained that most cases of children being trapped in homes are due to parental negligence, lack of awareness, and inattention.
He noted that incidents in residential villas often repeat, where a child enters a room or bathroom and locks the door from the inside, unable to reopen it, especially if he is young.
Bishoh stressed the importance of parents remaining calm in such situations to avoid frightening the child. He also warned of the significant danger posed by balconies or high windows in rooms, as children might attempt to reach them, risking a fall.
Regarding children trapped in cars, Colonel Bishoh attributed the cause basically to negligence, where children are sometimes left inside running vehicles, which can lead to serious incidents, especially with push-button cars which children might tamper with, potentially moving the vehicle or causing suffocation if left unattended.
Colonel Bishoh also noted that the UAE has recorded several cases of child suffocation and death in recent years due to being left in cars, prompting security authorities to intensify awareness campaigns. Bishoh highlighted that Dubai Police respond swiftly to all reports, with child entrapment cases receiving the highest priority, where instant contact is made with the child’s guardians upon receiving the report, and necessary guidance is provided until specialised teams arrive.
Regarding children trapped in elevators, Colonel Bishoh pointed out that some parents allow children to go to neighbours or nearby stores alone, which can expose them to risks such as elevator entrapment or harassment by bad people.
He called on parents to exercise caution and always accompany their children to ensure their safety.
