Engineer Khalifa Bin Hadda Al Suwaidi, Director of Technical Services at Sharjah City Municipality, revealed that 90 per cent of the first phase of the fire-safe building project ordered to be carried out by His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah has been completed.
The first phase of the project is scheduled to be completed by June 1, he said, adding that the fire that broke out in one of the city’s high-rise buildings a few days ago started inside one of the high-rise apartments and was confined there.
He explained that the fire did not spread due to the project to replace the flammable aluminum facades with fire-resistant ones.
The fire was put out and brought under control in record time, especially given that the project completion rate for the tower was 70 per cent, he said, noting that the consequences would have otherwise been dire.
Al Suwaidi said so in a conversation with Mohammed Hassan Khalaf, Director General of Sharjah Broadcasting Authority, on the Direct Line programme.
