Employers must notify the competent medical authority and the police station within the geographical area, as well as inform the Ministry through designated channels, within a maximum of 48 hours from the date of their knowledge or their legal representative’s knowledge of the occurrence of an injury or suspected work-related illness, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) stated.
MOHRE clarified via its "X" platform that the employer is responsible for covering all treatment costs of the injured worker until he fully recovers or it is proved that he has a permanent, total, or partial disability.
Work injury compensation is calculated based on the worker’s last basic salary and must be paid within ten working days from the date of the medical report determining the disability percentage, MOHRE added.
The worker’s rights and those of heirs in the event of death resulting from a work-related injury or illness, must be protected, in accordance with the laws and regulations, MOHRE affirmed, stressing the need for employers to provide occupational health and safety systems within workplaces and follow procedures to reduce accident and injury rates.
This includes regularly training workers to handle potential risks and respond appropriately in emergencies. Additionally, MOHRE called on workers to report any violations or shortcomings in the application of occupational safety standards through official channels.
