Brigadier Abdullah Saif Al Matrooshi, Director General of Police Operations at Ajman Police, honoured an Arab woman for her security awareness and quick response in reporting to the police after spotting a child climbing the edge of a balcony in a residential tower.
Al Matrooshi praised the woman’s swift reaction and responsible behaviour when she noticed, from her apartment window, a child dangerously climbing the window of an opposite building. She instantly alerted the police, that rushed to the scene.
Colonel Ghaith Khalifa Al Kaabi, Director of the Comprehensive City Police Station, detailed that the operations room received a report from an Arab woman stating that a two-year-old child was in a dangerous position on a balcony edge.
A patrol team was dispatched instantly and found that the child who was unsupervised had climbed the edge using a chair while his parents were distracted, posing a serious risk to his life.
Colonel Al Kaabi added that, in the interest of child safety, the child’s parents were summoned, and legal action was taken against them for proved negligence.
Al Kaabi emphasised the importance of ensuring safety measures in homes, especially in high-rise apartments with openable windows, to protect children from falling.
He warned that leaving children unsupervised could lead to legal consequences under the UAE’s child rights laws.
