More than 600,000 traffic violations, registered over 10 years ago, have been waived by the Sharjah Executive Council, according to Colonel Mohammed Al Naqbi, Director of the Traffic and Patrols Department at the Sharjah Police General Headquarters, on the "Direct Line" programme.
He added that the number of expired and unrenewed vehicles in the emirate exceeds 44,000, which remain registered in the system but have not had their licences renewed for many years.
Al Naqbi explained that the relevant authorities have established a mechanism for submitting requests to waive old traffic violations, involving visiting the Traffic and Licencing Services Centre at the Sharjah Police General Headquarters and paying a fee of Dhs1,000 per vehicle included in the request.
He also revealed exceptions to the fee payment, including cases where the vehicle owner is deceased, has left the country for a continuous period exceeding 10 years, or where the vehicle is abandoned and its owner cannot be reached through competent authorities.
Al Naqbi emphasised that individuals with vehicles expired for more than 5 years cannot register new vehicles unless they settle the violations associated with their traffic code, which includes all vehicles registered in their name.
