The Sharjah Institute for Heritage (SIH) organised a meaningful intergenerational gathering on April 23 and 24.
Held in collaboration with the Ministry of Community Empowerment, the Sharjah Social Services Department, and the Senior Citizens Services Centre at Al Asala Club - with support from the Ministry - the initiative reflects the Institute’s enduring commitment to preserving cultural heritage and strengthening national identity.
This special event brought together youth, adults, and elders in a shared space of learning and cultural exchange, highlighting the power of heritage to connect people across generations.
Held at the Institute’s headquarters, the event saw enthusiastic participation from across the community, including heritage experts, cultural enthusiasts, and citizens of all ages.
The programme fostered meaningful dialogue and shared experiences between the younger and older generations.
On the first day, participants took part in heritage-inspired activities centered on the marine environment. A traditional performance of Al Nahma, an Emirati sea chant, immersed attendees in the memory of the sea’s vital role in Emirati life, sparking engagement across age groups through storytelling and performance.
The second day featured educational and interactive sessions specially designed for women from Al Asala Club. These heritage-rich activities aimed to reinforce cultural identity, celebrate inherited values, and provide a platform for elder women to share their wisdom and life experiences with younger generations in an empowering, respectful setting.
