Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) announced a project to construct a 1.6-kilometer rubber walkway in Khorfakkan.
The project, under the directives of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, is part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles and developing infrastructure in residential areas, particularly in the Eastern Region.
The new walkway has an average width of 4 meters and wraps around Khorfakkan Hospital, passing through Al Bardi 6, serving the neighborhood’s residents and hospital visitors and providing an ideal and safe environment for walking and jogging.
High-quality materials of standard specifications are used to enhance users’ comfort.
As part of the project, some 5,000 square meters of green spaces will be planted with ornamental plants and landscaping around the walkway in collaboration with Khorfakkan Municipality and the Public Works Department.
This is aimed to improve the quality of life in residential areas by providing infrastructure dedicated to pedestrians and athletes.
The project also reflects the commitment of the concerned authorities to implementing the directives of the wise leadership.
The walkway forms part of the internal road development project in Al Bardi 6, which includes the construction of side pedestrian crossings to facilitate movement, enhance traffic safety and keep pace with the urban growth witnessed in Khorfakkan, making it an important addition to the emirate's urban development plan.
The project is expected to be completed soon, reflecting the SRTA’s strategy to implement sustainable projects that serve people and the environment, enhance the level of services provided and support Sharjah's initiatives towards healthy and smart cities.
