I am reading in the newspaper that Indian players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and others are getting hints to start playing domestic matches to remain in form. I have read somewhere that Kohli last played a Ranji game back in 2012, while Rishabh Pant featured last in India’s premier first-class tournament in 2017.
Even Indian captain Rohit Sharma was seen flexing his muscles at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday. The Indian team management have started thinking seriously about the form of Indian players., which Indian players have failed to perform in Australia recently and suffered loss. I completely agree with the view that Indian players should play domestic matches to remain in form. I remember while growing up in the late ’90s, I would see players like Sunil Gavaskar, Mohammed Azharuddin, Sachin Tendulkar, Dilip Vengsarkar, Ravi Shastri play domestic matches for their states if free. That’s why they went on to become legends. But our young and senior players shy away from hitting the ground running and that’s why they are unable to perform as per the expectations. Our players should play domestic matches whenever they are not on national duty.
