Hollywood is busy in January as award season really kicks off with nominations and prizes being announced and handed out. This week we are taking a look at the recently announced nominations for the Screen Actors Guild Awards which some say is an excellent precursor for the mighty Oscars.
Selena Gomez has received a lot of praise for her performance in the Spanish-musical “Emilia Perez” while also being subject to some criticism for her Spanish. She is nominated for her role as the wife of a crime lord who is forced to start a new life after her husband disappears. The film also stars Zoe Saldaña, Karla Sofía Gascón, Adriana Paz, Mark Ivanir, and Édgar Ramírez. Gomez has stated that she will go on to make more movies in Spanish. Additionally, Gomez has another nomination for her role in “Only Murders in the Building.”
Angelina Jolie is back in the limelight with her new film “Maria,” much to the delight of her fans. She has already received a Golden Globe nomination and a Gotham Awards tribute for her role as famed opera singer Maria Callas in the biographical psychological drama film. The film tells the story of the last seven days of her life in Paris in 1977 while she reflects on her time and career.
