India have named their 15-player squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy. Veteran pacer Mohammed Shami is back after a long interval, which is indeed great news for Indians. Young and stylish Shubham Gill has been named vice captain. It is a great opportunity for Gill to exhibit his value. I hope he takes this opportunity to create his credibility and cement his position in a leadership role as well. He is an excellent player with lots of talent.
In the meanwhile, Yashasvi Jaiswal receives his maiden ODI call-up. He deserves it. He can be an excellent choice as opener like Virendra Sehwag. We are waiting for Jasprit Bumrah to be fit as early as possible. Hope Indian captain Rohit Sharma manages to create magic once again with his leadership. Let’s see how India perform at the Champions Trophy.
This tournament will be very crucial for India. Players like Rohit, Virat Kohli, Shami, K.L.Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja will be watched closely by Indian selectors for future opportunities. Most of them have failed to perform in the Australia series and are under severe criticism. This is going to be very challenging for them too. That’s why I feel Champions Trophy is going to be very important for senior players as this will decide their future. Lots of talented young players are doing well at the domestic level and are waiting to grab the opportunity.
