We are in the middle of award season and nothing gets bigger than the Oscars. This week we are taking a look at the recently announced nominations for the 97th Academy Awards as well as who missed out.
It was expected that the film “Emilia Pérez” would receive multiple nominations and it did not dissapoint. The film leads the way with a whopping total of 13 nods including best picture, best lead actress for Karla Sofía Gascón, best supporting actress for Zoe Saldaña and best director for Jacques Audiard. The French-produced film also broke the record for most nominations recieved by an international film.
Another film that did really well is “Wicked” with 10 nominations in total. The film’s stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande are nominated for best actress and best supporting actress respectively. This is Erivo’s third nomination and if she does end up winning, she could become an EGOT, one of the very few people in the world to have won an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony award. She would also be the youngest person to achieve this. The movie is also nominated for best picture.
