I am excited for the Ninth Al Warraqeen Used Book Festival, which started on Wednesday. A 5-day event is taking place at Palm Park on the shores of Khalid Lake in Sharjah. I have been attending it for five years with my daughter. This reminds me of my college days when I would visit Old Delhi on Sunday morning to fetch books at a cheaper price. That’s why I always wait for the Used Book Festival to begin and I go almost daily to fetch books. It is indeed a wonderful event. We get to see books from different genres at a very reasonable price. Last time I managed to find lots of biographies of world leaders. It was a very interesting read.
It is wonderful to see young readers thronging the venue to find books and this shows that books are going to stay forever. Despite the fact that we are living in a digital era, love for written words has its own charm. I really appreciate the Sharjah Government for hosting such a lovely event. I always term my visit to the festival “an affordable outing.” I get to own wonderful sets of books by spending only Dhs200 then I live on with those books for many months.
