Dr Sultan Bin Ahmed Al Jaber has called on governments, industry, and all stakeholders to “disrupt business as usual” and take decisive action to tackle the climate crisis.
Dr Sultan Bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and COP28 President-Designate, gave remarks at the Amazon Summit and Collaboration for Sustainable Development, urging leaders to build on President Lula da Silva’s commitment and inspire transformational progress on nature at COP28.
Delivering the opening address of Gastech 2021, Dr. Al Jaber highlighted the UAE's leadership in natural gas and said "natural gas will support the nation’s vision for economic growth as set out by the Leadership in the 'Principles of the Fifty'."
He also highlighted the significant rise in investment in renewable energy in recent years and India’s drive to add 500 GW of clean energy by 2030, adding that the UAE was keen to partner with India and the world on advancing clean energies.

“In climate change, the world is playing catchup. We are at a turning point in history. Low carbon growth is the future. We must more than double low carbon hydrogen production to at least 180 million tonnes for hard to abate sectors,” said the COP President-Designate at the Atlantic Council Global Energy Forum.
Acknowledging that the world is not on track to meet the objectives of the Paris Agreement, Dr. Al Jaber said that the COP28 Action Agenda will help "translate all the ambitions of Paris into practical results.”
