Saudi Arabia will offer multiple-entry visas to those holding tickets to the football World Cup in Qatar, the kingdom has announced.

The Saudi foreign ministry said in a statement on Thursday those registered for Qatar's Hayya Card will be able to apply for the electronic visas 10 days before the World Cup starts.

The Hayya Card is mandatory for ticket holders going to the soccer World Cup.

"Holders of the electronic visa will be able to enter and exit Saudi Arabia several times during the validity of their visa," the foreign ministry said on Twitter.

The move comes as Qatar tries to accommodate an expected 1.2 million football fans during the Nov.20-Dec.18 World Cup, and as Riyadh ramps up efforts to attract foreign tourists.

In Dubai, hotels already say some fans are booking rooms and planning to commute to matches by air.

The Saudi foreign ministry added that pre-entry to Qatar was not required, though those coming will have to have medical insurance coverage. Saudi Arabia's website for visas is visa.visitSaudi.com.
