Legendary cricketer and former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has penned down a heartfelt note for his daughter, Ansha Afridi, sharing his fatherhood emotions about her marriage with Pakistan fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi.
Shaheen and Ansha’s ongoing wedding festivities have been causing quite the frenzy on social media since photos and videos from the lavish celebrations started hitting the Internet on Tuesday night.
The rukhsati (seeing off) ceremony of the couple took place at Karachi’s famous wedding venue on Tuesday nights, seven months after Ansha and Shaheen officially married in a nikkah ceremony this year following their engagement two years ago. Their reception (valima) event will be held in federal captial on Thursday.
The former captain took to X, formerly Twitter, to share the pictures with his 4.2 million followers, writing a beautiful and touching verse in Urdu for his daughter.
"Aya tha ghar main noor abhi kal ki baat hai
Rukhsat bhi ho raha hai wo ankhon kay saamney
Dooba hua bhi hai terey baba ka dil magar
Umeed subh-e-nau isey ayi hai thamney," the former cricket team captain Afridi wrote.
An in emotional post Shahid Afridi said; 'It seems just like yesterday that a light came into my home and now that same light is departing in front of my eyes. Your father’s heart is drowning, but hope will come with the morning light.'
Along with his daughter and son-in-law, Shahid shared two photos on X of himself with the newly wedded couple. In both pictures, taken from a back angle showed former captain with his arms around his daughter Ansha and son-in-law Shaheen.
In one of the photos, Shahid Afridi is seen leaning towards Ansha, expressing his feelings of a father seeing his daughter off.
Pictures from the star-studded wedding ceremony, have gone viral on social media with Shaheen seen mingling with guests and fellow cricketers, prominent personalities and showbiz stars, which included Babar Azam, former captain Misbah-ul-Haq, Saeed Anwar, Sohail Khan, Shaista Lodhi, Javeria Saud, Humayun Saeed, Adnan Siddiqui and Fahad Mustafa.
