Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur is a trailblazer of women’s tennis in Arab and African countries.

The harbinger of women’s tennis in Arab world and African countries, Tunisian sensation Ons Jabeur, is set to light up Mubabadala Abu Dhabi Open with her debut at the second edition of the event.

The event will be held from Feb.3-11, 2024 at the International Tennis Centre at Zayed Sports City in Abu Dhabi.  Fans and spectators from around the world can now reserve the best seats in the house for this thrilling nine-day tennis spectacle as the tickets go on sale.

Hosted in partnership with Mubadala and Abu Dhabi Sports Council, the WTA 500 event will bring together the world’s top female players including fan-favourite and current top-10 player, Jabeur.

“I’m excited to be heading to Zayed Sports City for the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open in February 2024. The fans in this region have always been so generous with their love and support and I can’t wait to get on court for this incredible tournament.,” said Ons Jabeur.

Despite missing the inaugural Abu Dhabi Open, Jabeur does have previous experience playing at Zayed Sports City’s International Tennis Centre, having twice competed at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship – a pre-season exhibition tournament.

One of the most popular players on tour, Jabeur has experienced an eventful season, combining highs – like winning titles in Charleston and Ningbo and reaching the Wimbledon final – with lows, including losing a Wimbledon final and enduring several injury setbacks.

The Tunisian is sure to be joined at the Abu Dhabi Open by several of the WTA Tour’s leading players. The 2023 edition featured the likes of 2022 Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina, world No 12 Daria Kasatkina, and Olympic gold medallist Belinda Bencic, who defeated Luidmila Samsonova in the final to lift the trophy.

A one-off WTA Tour tournament was also previously held in Abu Dhabi, in 2021, as part of a unique calendar to host events during the pandemic. That tournament was won by reigning world No 1 Aryna Sabalenka.

Jabeur’s meteoric rise in tennis is a trailblazer for the young women aspirants in the Arab and the African nations. She has the distinction of not only playing the Grand Slam tournaments but also reaching to the final of the tourneys like Wimbledon and US Open.

Jabeur reached her second consecutive Grand Slam title match, two months after playing as a finalist at Wimbledon, as she hopes to add a major trophy to her list of groundbreaking accomplishments.

Jabeur, who becomes the first African and Arab woman to reach the US Open final, beat Caroline Garcia 6-1, 6-3 Flushing Meadows.

She missed both the titles by a whisker. and the day is not far, when Jabeur may become the first Arab to win a Grand Slam.

The upcoming nine-day championship will build on the success of the inaugural 2023 event, with an enhanced Fan Village promising an action-packed event catering to families and sports enthusiasts both on and off the court. In addition to participating in player clinics, top-ranking players will also be part of meet-and-greet events with ticketholders, offering spectators an opportunity to interact with their favourite tennis heroes.
