Strong line-up for Khaled Bin Mohamed Bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu C’ship 4th round

Khaled Bin Mohamed Bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship – Round 4 will kick off on Friday at the Zayed Sports Complex in Fujairah and will continue until Sunday, with the participation of over 2,200 male and female athletes.

This round, the penultimate of the championship, has seen a remarkable turnout from clubs and academies, reflecting the significance the championship has quickly gained and the intense competition among clubs to earn the most points and vie for the title ahead of the final round in Abu Dhabi in December.

Mohamed Hussain Al Marzooqi, Director of Marketing and Corporate Communications at the UAEJJF, said: “Khaled Bin Mohamed Bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship has become a major event for clubs and academies.

“The championship, featuring highly competitive five rounds, gives clubs and academies the chance to test the skills of athletes in a top-level environment and discover new talents who would possibly become future champions.”

He added: “Hosting this high level championship demonstrates the consistent support jiu-jitsu receives from our visionary leadership to promote the sport’s values in our society. What makes this championship special is that it takes place in various parts of the country, providing audiences with a unique experience allowing families to attend and support their children, celebrating their accomplishments together.”

Zayed Al Kaabi, coach of Al Ain Jiu-Jitsu Club, said: “We ensured that a large number of our athletes participate in different categories to give them the chance to compete in this high-level championship, which offers an atmosphere as competitive as the top international tournaments.

“The year-round events provide us with opportunities to win more medals and titles, strengthening the club’s standing, and we’re aiming to secure the championship title as the final round approaches.

“This championship also helps ensure our athletes are prepared for regional and international competitions, while keeping them fit and continuously developing.

“It’s especially important because it occurs just weeks before the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship, the biggest event in the sport worldwide.”

Zayed Alrefaei of Al Jazira Jiu-Jitsu Club, competing in the Youth Men’s 46KG category, said: “I’m excited for the championship to begin. I’ve performed well in the previous rounds and feel fully prepared to take out a stellar performance this time around too.

“I’ve trained hard, focusing on improving my skills and adding new tactics to my approach. My goal is to finish my matches quickly with submissions to save energy for the later rounds.”

Earlier, Sharjah Self-Defense Sports Club has surged into the lead on the second day of the Khaled Bin Mohamed Bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship – Round 3 No-Gi.

Competition featured the U-12 and U-14 divisions, with Sharjah Self-Defense Sports Club delivering an impressive performance, combining technical expertise with remarkable focus. M.O.D UAE now holds second place, while Al Ain Jiu-Jitsu Club remains in third.

The second day of the championship was attended by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Humaid Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Department of Statistics and Community Development, member of the Sharjah Executive Council (SEC); Sheikh Tariq Bin Faisal Al Qasimi; Issa Hilal Al Hazami, Chairman of Sharjah Sports Council; Saeed Ali Al-Ajel, Vice President of the UAE Sports for All Federation; Aref Al Shehhi, Manager of the Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank branch in Umm Al Quwain and Khaled Al Shamsi, Manager of the Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank branch in Sharjah.
