The Higher Organizing Committee of the Al Salam Cycling Championship has approved the programme for the ninth edition of the event, held under the directives and patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
The championship, organized by the Private Office of His Highness the Ruler of Dubai, is the largest community cycling event globally in terms of diversity and prize money.
The meeting, chaired by Omair Jumaa Al Falasi, Director-General of the Private Office of His Highness the Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the Supreme Organizing Committee, was attended by committee members including Mohammed Abdullah Al Mousa, Majid Abdul Rahman Al Bastaki, Rami Bassam Al Nabulsi, and other key figures such as Ahmed Al Ketbi, Hasher Bin Subaih, Rashid Bin Majran, Abdullah Bin Oboud, Jassim Al-Jasmi, Raza Ali, and Lama Shamsoum.
The committee approved four races for the ninth edition, encompassing all categories. The schedule begins with the UAE Nationals’ Amateur Race on December 29, 2024, followed by the Men’s Elite Race on January 19, 2025, the Women’s Race on February 2, 2025, and concludes with the Desert Race on February 9, 2025.
The total prize money for the four races is Dhs3.5 million, reflecting the generous support aimed at encouraging the community to adopt cycling as a healthier and more active lifestyle.
The committee reviewed reports on the progress and growth achieved over the past eight editions, which have witnessed success in terms of technical, organizational, and participatory aspects, attracting thousands of cyclists from various nationalities.
The championship has garnered widespread media attention, evolving into a platform for promoting physical activity and showcasing the UAE’s scenic landscapes through races connecting the Saih Al-Salam area in the Al Marmoom Conservation Reserve to several iconic sites across Dubai.
This blend of athleticism and stunning scenery highlights the UAE’s modern development and natural beauty.
The committee also coordinated preparations with various government and private entities that have supported the event in ensuring top safety standards for all participants across previous editions.
Omair Jumaa Al Falasi said: “We are honored to extend our heartfelt gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum for his directives and patronage, which have made this championship the most anticipated annual event for Emirati and expatriate cyclists, as well as participants from GCC.”
He added, “The continuous organization of the championship for the ninth consecutive year and its remarkable growth are results of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid’s vision and support. His presence and encouragement, alongside the substantial prize pool of Dhs3.5 million, have raised the level of competition each year, establishing this event as one of the most significant cycling championships in the region and the world.”
The committee has finalized the race routes, which will be announced in stages, allowing participants ample time for suitable preparations.
Additionally, the championship collaborates with several government entities to ensure the event’s success, participant safety, environmental preservation, and sustainability practices. These partners include Dubai Police, Dubai Sports Council, RTA, Dubai Municipality, Dubai Sports Channel, Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services, among others.
