With just days to go until the eighth edition of the Abu Dhabi Extreme Championship (ADXC 8) gets underway at the ADNEC Centre in Al Ain, top jiu-jitsu and grappling stars took a break from their intense training camps to explore the city’s iconic landmarks. Fighters visited Al Ain Zoo, Al Ain Adventure, Jebel Hafit Desert Park, Emirates Falcons Aviation, and Al Ain Oasis, soaking up the city’s rich culture and stunning scenery ahead of Friday’s showdown.
Brazil’s Jafel Filho, set to face UFC Flyweight No. 3 Amir Albazi in the main event, and joined local favourite Khaled Al Shehhi for an aerial tour with Emirates Falcons Aviation. The experience offered sweeping views of Al Ain, showcasing its stunning landscapes and the unique blend of urban and desert scenery. Russian fighter Movlid Khaybulaev and Brazilian James Gallagher also joined the flight, sharing a moment of camaraderie before their respective bouts.
Meanwhile, Emirati standout Shamma Al Kalbani and China’s Peiqin Ge—opponents in a much-anticipated bantamweight clash—visited the UNESCO World Heritage site of Al Ain Oasis. Known for its ancient falaj irrigation system and lush date palms, the oasis provided the fighters with a serene break from their intense preparations. Yaroslav Rymashevskii and Muhammad Ramazanov also explored the oasis, appreciating its tranquil atmosphere and historical significance.
Fighters on the ADXC 8 card also ventured to Al Ain Adventure, an outdoor adventure park offering activities like white-water rafting and surfing. Some fighters took on the trails of Jebel Hafit Desert Park, exploring the rugged mountain terrain. These experiences offered a rare chance for the fighters to bond outside the competitive arena while enjoying Al Ain’s mix of nature and adventure.
Khaled Al Shehhi, who is set to face Brazil’s Thalison Soares in a bantamweight bout, welcomed his fellow athletes to his hometown. “Al Ain is a beautiful city with a rich heritage and warm hospitality, and I’m thrilled to welcome fighters from around the world to experience it,” he said. “We’re all here to compete at the highest level in ADXC 8, but moments like these remind us that sport is about connection and mutual respect. I encourage everyone to take in the beauty of Al Ain while preparing for what promises to be an unforgettable night of competition at ADNEC Centre on December 6.”
