The beaches of Khorfakkan saw the launch of the first round of the UAE Wooden Powerboat Championship, as part of the Khorfakkan Marine Festival, which is one of the most prominent marine events in the region.
Khorfakkan Marine Festival included 22 competitors representing the UAE, Kuwait and the Saudi Arabia.
In an atmosphere filled with enthusiasm, determination, and fierce competition, the Al Meshkhas 33 boat, skilfully led by the experienced captain Ahmed Hamid Bin Dhiban and his partner Walid Hamid Bin Dhiban, managed to secure a well-deserved and commanding victory.
Their seamless coordination, exceptional maritime expertise, and unwavering focus enabled them to overcome formidable challenges posed by rival teams.
The triumph of Al Meshkhas 33 not only highlights their exceptional capabilities but also serves as a testament to their dedication, strategy, and passion for excellence in competitive sailing.
The championship, organised by Sharjah International Marine Sports Club in cooperation with the Emirates Marine Sports Federation and sponsored by MAG Holding, highlights the heritage of the UAE through the use of traditional wooden Shawahif, reflecting the organisers’ commitment to preserving the Emirati heritage and reviving it through sports.
The championship is a unique opportunity that combines cultural heritage with the atmosphere of modern sports challenge, which adds a distinctive dimension to the event.
The round saw wide participation from the Gulf countries, as competitors from the UAE, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia competed in an exciting competitive atmosphere, showing a high level of skill and outstanding performance on the waters of Khorfakkan.
The championship maintained the highest safety and security standards approved by the International Marine Sports Federation (Union internationale motonautique UIM), as all boats were equipped with the latest safety equipment, including life jackets and protective helmets, with rescue teams ready for rapid intervention and medical teams to ensure the safety of competitors and the public.
The event saw a large audience of more than 5,000 spectators, who flocked to enjoy the exciting atmosphere and follow the exceptional performance of the competitors amidst the charming landmarks of Khorfakkan.
Ahmed Issa Al Hosani, Board Member of the UAE Marine Sports Federation and General Manager of the Sharjah International Marine Sports Club, stated that the success of this round reflects the interest in the UAE’s maritime heritage and the spirit of challenge that brings together the participants. He expressed that he is grateful for the great support from MAG Holding Group, and looks forward to more exciting rounds in the future.
This round is the first in a series of four rounds that will be held in different locations across the UAE, adding more excitement and thrill for marine sports enthusiasts.
With three more rounds remaining, eyes are on the upcoming stages that promise more competition and excitement, as the championship continues to highlight the UAE’s position as a leading destination for marine sports with a heritage and sporting character.
The Speedy boat from Kuwait, led by the Mustafa Al Dashti, showcased impressive speed and resilience to secure second place. Meanwhile, the Raheeb boat, also representing Kuwait and commanded by captain Khaled Karam, demonstrated remarkable strategy and control to claim a commendable third-place finish.
